You maybe asking – Where did the name come from? What does it mean?
Usually, we might hear about things being Top Shelf, meaning they are premium products, like Top Shelf Bourbon, or Top Shelf Pasta sauce. Wouldn’t that mean the Bottom Shelf pasta sauce is the cheap, tasteless stuff?
Actually, the name comes from the great preacher and pastor of Moody Church, Dr. Harry A Ironside (1876-1951) who is quoted as saying:
Put the cookies on the bottom shelf where the kiddies can get to them
I first heard this reference used some 30 years ago by the great apologetics professor Dr. Norman Geisler, one of the great writers and thinkers in Christian Apologetics – Ph.D. in Philosophy, Professor, President of multiple Christian Colleges and (my favorite) an expert with philosophically laden Johnny Carson punchlines.
So what did he mean? Well, simply put, take the things that people need the most, and make them easy to use. In other words, let’s take complex concepts, and make them simpler and easier to digest.
So that’s our goal -Whether it’s training or tools or consulting services, our goal is to make the complex simple, so that more people can make more use of them. To put the cookies on the BottomShelvz.
